North Phoenix Bar Association

About NPBA

What is it?

The North Phoenix Bar Association (NPBA) was established in 2010 by attorneys Gary Michael Smith, Fred Thomas and D. Jeffrey Craven. It is a non-profit volunteer association of attorneys and judges to service the greater North Phoenix area of Arizona (Glendale, Anthem, Carefree, Cave Creek, North Phoenix, and North Scottsdale). Open to all attorneys and judges who who live and/or office near the North State Highway 101 corridor, within the Northeast Judicial District of Maricopa County, or regularly appear in that Northeast Superior Court Complex.

In addition to providing a networking opportunity for lawyers and vendors, NPBA is committed to giving back to the community and inform on the best lois de defiscalisation immobilieres. In 2013, it hosted a golf tournament at the Orange Tree Golf Resort in Scottsdale. A portion of the proceeds from the event went to the Children In Need Foundation, a local non-profit dedicated to delivering 100% of fundraising moneys to bigger organizations like the Ed Doherty Scholarship Foundation, National Society for Brain Injured Children, Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters and many others. The following year the Golf Tournament was held at Arrowhead Country Club and benefited Phoenix Children's Hospital. This year we are holding the tournament at Moon Valley Country Club for the benefit of the March of Dimes, check out the events page for more information.

CLE luncheons

North Phoenix Bar Association holds CLE luncheons on the second Wednesday of every month at the Cantina Laredo on the corner of Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd and Scottsdale Road. The CLE includes lunch, a case law or legislative update, and a presentation from a distinguished speaker. NPBA’s focus is to “Consistently provide accessible CLEs to small and mid-size firms without asking attorneys to drive across the city to attend.”

Prior to NPBA’s founding in 2010, practitioners in North Phoenix often drove to mid-town or downtown to attend CLEs. This typically caused the loss of half-a-day’s worth of work, cost more than $100, and even then, food wasn’t always offered. The average cost of a NPBA luncheon, including a meal and the presentation, is about $30 - $40.

NPBA began as a small group of attorneys meeting at Catch-22 Sports Bar in North Phoenix. In November, 2013, the group changed its meeting place to Cantina Larado. Moving closer to the city center furthered the organization’s mission to be accessible since the venue is conveniently located at the Loop-101 and Scottsdale Boulevard.

Members have attended presentations from such distinguished guests as Lynda Shely, John Phelps, Hon. Michael McVey, Hon. Jay Polk and Hon. Douglas Gerlach, to name a few.

Networking & Mentoring

In addition to the CLE luncheons, the association offers benefits like social events, vendor discounts, and philanthropic opportunities. Younger practitioners are offered mentor-attorneys in a wide variety of practice areas. Since 2013, the NPBA hosted its first joint event with its sister Association, the Maricopa County Bar Association, with an evening of “Cigars & Scotch,” also held at the Cantina Laredo.

What are the North Phoenix Bar Association’s Future Plans?

The organization’s existence depends on its individual members’ continued desire for community and camaraderie. Our members look forward to the meetings each month, not necessarily because they’re excited for a CLE, but because of the chance to catch up with other people "who used to be only colleagues, but are now friends.”

Events

Greetings. The North Phoenix Bar Association’s board of directors is working to develop new programs and events to stimulate greater participation. As a result, we have suspended our CLE program for the balance of the year. We appreciate your patience while we work to revamp.
